John Forbes Nash: 1928-2015
J & I love the film ‘A Beautiful Mind’. It’s about the genius, paranoid schizophrenic, mathematician John Nash & his quest for the most original idea.
“Nash’s work has provided insight into the factors that govern chance and events inside complex systems in daily life.”
On May 23rd, while he & his wife Alicia (beautifully portrayed by Jennifer Connely in the film) were coming home from the airport, they were killed in a car crash.
Mr. Nash was awarded the Abel Pize, along with mathematician Louis Nirenberg, for their work on nonlinear partial differential equations. They were on their way home from the airport…
So in remembrance of John Forbes Nash Jr., my two favorite quotes from the movie:
Nash: There has to be a mathematical explanation for how bad that tie is.
[showing Charles one of his window equations]
Nash: This is a group playing touch football. This is a flock of pigeons fighting over bread crumbs. And this is a woman chasing a man who stole her purse.
Charles: John, you watched a mugging. That’s weird.
Go watch the film, it’s great!
Peace & blessings to all,
